Beide S\u00f6hne wurden von ihrem Vater privat unterrichtet und haben keine \u00f6ffentliche Schule besucht. Sie erwarben beide einen Abschluss in Physik und arbeiteten gemeinsam an der Hochschule f\u00fcr Physik und Chemie in Paris, wo sie dann 1880 den piezoelektrischen Effekt entdeckten. Pierre starb Anfang 1906 bei einem Verkehrsunfall, als er unter ein Pferdefuhrwerk geriet. Jacques wurde sp\u00e4ter Professor f\u00fcr Mineralogie an der Universit\u00e4t Montpellier und starb 1941 in Montpellier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vorl\u00e4ufer des Quarzoszillators waren induktiv-kapazitive Schaltungen. Hier w\u00fcrden sich die Werte von Induktivit\u00e4t und Kapazit\u00e4t mit der Temperatur, der Luftfeuchtigkeit, dem atmosph\u00e4rischen Druck und dem Alter so stark ver\u00e4ndern, dass ein Radio nicht mehr abgestimmt werden k\u00f6nnte. Um die Tr\u00e4gerfrequenz dieses Funksignals auf Dauer stabil zu halten, ist der Funker st\u00e4ndig mit dem Abgleich der Kondensatorplatten besch\u00e4ftigt.
