De kan ikke kobles til et str\u00f8muttak, slik ladbare hybridbiler biler kan. Elbiler med brenselcelle<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Disse bilene drives av hydrogengass som mates inn i en brenselcelle. Brenselcellen produserer elektrisitet som driver motoren. Denne typen elbil generer all elektrisitet internt og slipper bare ut vanndamp, i motsetning til batteridrevne biler.  I tillegg har de lengre rekkevidde og raskere drivstoffp\u00e5fylling. Utover de typene som er omtalt ovenfor fins det ogs\u00e5 andre typer: LCV (Low Carbon Vehicles), AFV (Alternative Fuel Vehicles) og MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles). De ulike behovene til dagens bilister gjenspeiles i fordelene og ulempene som de ulike elbiltypene har \u00e5 by p\u00e5.
