Som en iboende komponent i datastyrte enheter, brukes halvledere mye i produksjonen av dioder, transistorer og integrerte kretser. Bruken er s\u00e5 fremtredende at det har gitt opphav til begrepet \u00abSilicon Valley\u00bb, som er synonymt med mange av de mest innovative globale selskapene og teknologiske produktene i verden. Selv om den ikke er en naturlig leder, kan silisium dopes slik at den oppf\u00f8rer seg som en.<br><br>Doping i denne sammenhengen er en prosess der silisium blandes med en urenhet for \u00e5 lage en ekstrinsik halvleder. Det finnes to typer urenheter som kan oppn\u00e5 dette:<br><br>1. PIN-diode<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Disse finnes ofte i h\u00f8yspenningsapparater og apparater som krever rask veksling. De har egenskaper som rask responstid, lav kapasitans og lav lekkasjestr\u00f8m.
