I allm\u00e4nhet best\u00e4ms desinfektionseffekten av den kumulativa ljusm\u00e4ngden (eller UV-dosen) som ber\u00e4knas med hj\u00e4lp av ljusstyrkan (intensiteten) och den tid som UV-ljuset lyser p\u00e5 f\u00f6rem\u00e5let (intensitetstiden). Ju l\u00e4ngre intensitetstiden \u00e4r, desto mer \u00f6kar den kumulativa ljusm\u00e4ngden, vilket resulterar i en st\u00f6rre desinfektionseffekt.
