Casambi is a popular feature on many LED drivers, which allows for wireless lighting control. The increased capabilities it enables give users intelligent and flexible control of their lighting fixtures.

Using a smartphone or tablet, wireless control can be easily operated through the Casambi app. In this way, users can customise and operate their light fixtures to suit their needs. The versatility of this technology means that it is not limited to certain users or settings. It is commonly implemented in industrial, commercial, and residential environments to create dynamic and energy-efficient lighting. Operating across ranges up to approximately 200 metres.

Through Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, Casambi LED drivers can connect and communicate with multiple lighting devices, including luminaries, bulbs, and switches. Unlike classic Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy has the additional capability to send broadcast communications and create a wireless mesh within which all system intelligence is replicated across every node. Therefore, it allows for a self-organised system with no single points of failure. Thus, making it ideal for controlling multiple-point lighting fixture installations.

Casambi drivers can be paired with kinetic energy Bluetooth switches for an additional point of control. These smart switches, such as the OSRAM EASYFIT range, have no power source or battery. Rather, they efficiently convert physical energy generated from pressing the switch into a signal to control your lighting.

Norbert Fuchs, Product Manager of the OSRAM Casambi range at Inventronics discusses more about what can be achieved with Casambi.

NB: In May 2023, OSRAM sold its LED Drivers, Lighting Controls, LED Flex, and LED Modules business to Inventronics. These products continue to be branded OSRAM but are now owned, designed, manufactured, and developed by Inventronics.
