Vi hedrer en av de store – Michael Faraday

Michael Faraday var en engelsk vitenskapsmann som levde mellom 1791 og 1867. Han forsket på elektromagnetiske felt og elektrokjemi. Han hadde viktige oppdagelser av elektromagnetisk induksjon, diamagnetisme og elektrolyse.

Faraday vokste opp i trange kår og selv om han var faglært bokbinder var han likevel interessert i naturvitenskap og jobbet som labassistent hos Humphry Davy ved Royal Institution. Det var et sted som skulle vise seg å være en av de viktigste plassene han jobbet. I laboratoriumet gjennomførte han elektromagnetiske eksperimenter samtidig som han holdt årlige juleforelesninger. I 1833 ble utnevnt som førsteprofessor i kjemi.
