FESTO Solutions for Automation in Car Manufacturing

Success in car manufacturing demands that you be quicker, more flexible, and on top of that, more energy efficient. Festo helps you achieve that with pneumatic and electric solutions along the car vehicle manufacturing process chain, and getting the best out of both technologies.

Note: FESTO products are only available in certain regions

Precision handling in the press shop

The bottom line here is that the equipment has to work accurately while using enormous forces and operate at the highest possible speed. Functional safety is critically important. For the press shop, FESTO offers principally solutions that deliver extremely accurate handling and gripping and that are proven to be robust, durable and economic. This covers feed separating and the feeding in of the metal, secure fixing, lifting and transport.

For instance,  OVEM and OVEL vacuum generators combine vacuum generation and monitoring in one compact unit. OVEM with integrated air saving function has industrial energy efficiency built in. A non-return valve prevents unnecessary compressed air being used for stopping. Both vacuum generators are effectively maintenance-free.

In addition to this the integrated IO-Link technology makes the vacuum generators compliant with the Industrial Internet of Things.

One-Way Flow Control Valves, GRL, Festo

Introducing the GRLA series from FESTO. This range of pneumatic fittings feature exhaust flow regulators, each with an integrated QS push-in fitting. The series includes valves with one-way flow control function for exhaust air.

  • A range of extremely effective generators suitable for use directly in the workplace
  • Available as straight or T-shaped housing
  • Low space requirement

Precise welding and handling in the body shop

Body manufacture is a job for the welding robots. Here, robust solutions have to position the sheet metal accurately and repeatably, supply the line with small parts, and the welding guns with compressed air and water.

With an eye on making body shops ready for the Industrial Internet of Things, Festo has developed components specifically for servo-pneumatically driven welding guns. They have complete, application-specific solutions for the reliable supply of compressed air and coolant for individual welding robots or for complete welding lines. The design is pre-tested, tailored exactly to the body shop specifications, and guarantees the structured and focused supply of media. As a result, the welding points remain reliably reproducible.

The flagship, VTSA valve manifold with CPX terminal is included. It combines I/O modules, valve functionality and safety functions in accordance with ISO-13849-1 into one unit, including the bleeding of system components, reversing and protection against restarting. The high level of functional integration and the flexible connection to all commonly-used fieldbus systems make this automation solution the decentralized intelligence in Industrial Internet of Things scenarios.

Error-free, high speed painting systems

Delivering precise and consistent compressed air supply contributes significantly to the car bodies moving at a high cycle rate and with uniform quality through the paint shop. Festo provides a range of solutions and components.

With compressed air treatment service unit components from the MS product family, you can combine different sizes, filter cascades and air dryers for the required compressed air quality, in an energy-optimized manner.

The compact VPCF proportional flow control valves from Festo are designed to deliver accurate spray jet control in critical environments such as painting systems: IP65 classified, with ATEX approvals and of course, LABS-free. The high dynamics facilitate variable cycle times – never more than is necessary and without any time loss.

Record-breaking speed in power train production

Festo offers components and systems for the rapid and precise movement of loads, ensuring both fast transport and the handling of extremely precise monitoring tasks.

The electric or pneumatic stopper families bring loads of up to 800 kg to a stop reliably, gently and without any vibration. It is designed for the typical belt speeds found in power train production.

Reliable final assembly

We deliver suitable solutions for fully automated motion sequences for a safe and flexible interaction between man and machine. This includes components for reliable positioning and a extensive product portfolio for handling and assembly together with various pneumatic grippers and vacuum systems.

As part of the man/machine interaction, servo-pneumatic YHBP Balancer system moves loads around for assembly as if they were weightless, while adhering to the Safety Standard Performance Level d for loads up to 999 kg. In the case of a power loss, the system is designed to prevent the load from falling.

FESTO has a world first for you: AGTC Clip fix tool. It takes care of the time-consuming and ergonomically stressful work with a clean, reproducible pulse of compressed air that sets the assembly clips in position automatically. This ensures a high level of process reliability and a more comfortable experience for workers in production.
